COCOMI announces series of strikes

Imphal, May 24 (UNI) The Coordinating Committee of Manipur Integrity(COCOMI) has announced a series of strikes following the failure of the government to fulfill its demands.
Athouba, Convenor, addressing the media, said the stir will be launched against the insult to Manipur. Laikhuram Jayenta, IPR Convenor, COCOMI said it had set a 48-hour deadline for the Governor of Manipur to tender an apology over the restriction on the use of the name “Manipur” on government buses en route to Ukhrul for the Shirui Festival on May 20, 2025. A 48-hour general strike ended on Friday.
From Sunday onwards, it announced a public boycott of the Governor . Mass protests, rallies, torch processions, and sit-ins will be organized across all districts of Manipur. The people will express their collective resistance through democratic and non-violent means.
A civil disobedience campaign begins against the PR administration. Citizens are urged to cease all cooperation with Central Government offices whose decisions have repeatedly undermined the state’s dignity. It said Educational Institutions, Sports, Health, Banks, Postal Services, and Essential Services will be exempted.
The Security Advisor, Director General of Police (DGP), and Chief Secretary have consistently failed the people of Manipur. It demanded their immediate resignation for their roles in enabling or evading responsibility for such disgraceful actions.
It said agitations will be intensified at Raj Bhavan (Governor’s Residence), Central Government Offices, District Headquarters and PR Offices.
Meanwhile people shouted slogans on the streets on Saturday denouncing the failure of the government to protect Manipur’s identity and name. Human chains were also formed by students , women and others.
