Conditions favourable for further advance of SWMonsoon: Met Dept

Amaravati, May 18 (UNI) The Meteorological Centre here on Sunday stated that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon over additional parts of the South Arabian Sea, the Maldives and Comorin area, some more parts of the South and Central Bay of Bengal, and parts of the Northeast Bay of Bengal during the next two to three days.
In its daily weather report issued here, the Centre mentioned that a trough from the cyclonic circulation over west Vidarbha to Rayalaseema across North Interior Karnataka at 1.5 km above mean sea level continues to persist.
It also noted that the upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal now lies over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting southwestward with height.
A trough currently extends from the southeast Bay of Bengal to north Kerala via the aforementioned cyclonic circulation and the central parts of Tamil Nadu, also tilting southwestward with height.
Under the influence of these systems, heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Rayalaseema during the next three days, in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam on May 20, 21 and 22, and in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh on May 22.
Thunderstorms, accompanied by lightning and gusty winds with speeds ranging between 40 and 50 km per hour, are likely to occur at isolated places in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema during the next five days.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are expected at many places, a few places, or isolated locations in Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Rayalaseema over the next seven days.
During the past 24 hours, heavy rainfall was reported in Gorantla (Sri Sathya Sai District), Uravakonda (Anantapur District), Kurnool (Kurnool District) and Amadagur (Sri Sathya Sai District) in Rayalaseema.
Rainfall occurred at a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam and at most places in Rayalaseema during the same period, the report added.
