Cong damaged democracy beyond imaginations during emergency: BJP

Patna, June 28 (UNI) BJP on Saturday alleged that Congress had damaged democracy beyond imaginations, only for the sake of one family during emergency period in the country.
Bihar BJP president Dilip Jaiswal while addressing mock parliament organised by women's wing of his party, said that emergency period would always be remembered as black chapter of democracy. It was strange to note that Congress leaders had overwhelmingly supported emergency, just to protect the interests of one family without caring interests of the common man of the country, he pointed out.
"Entire country was turned into an open jail as a large number of people including top opposition leaders were put behind bars without assigning any reason ",
Jaiswal said adding that top leaders, prominent personalities and also people of the country had made great sacrifice in staging agitation to protect democracy. It was also a lesson that new generations should be made aware to work for strengthening the democratic structure of the country, he added.
BJP leader said that even after fifty years of imposition of emergency by the then Congress government, its leaders' views remain unchanged. They were still defending the decision of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in imposing emergency in mid seventies, he pointed out.
