Cong seeks ECI halt to disputed voter deletions in Uttarakhand

New Delhi, Aug 20 (UNI) Congress on Thursday urged the Election Commission of India to immediately suspend the processing of disputed Form-7 objections and consequent deletion of names from electoral rolls in Uttarakhand, alleging that the mechanism was being misused on a large scale during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
In a representation to the ECI, Congress alleged that a limited number of individuals were filing an unusually high number of Form-7 objections seeking deletion of genuine voters.
It claimed that many such objections were being submitted without physical complaints, verifiable identities or credible supporting evidence, creating a "systemic vulnerability" that could result in wrongful disenfranchisement.
