Srinagar, June 28 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) will kickstart the Kashmir leg of its political movement 'Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq' from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district today.
The campaign, aimed at advocating the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, has already completed its first phase in the Jammu region.
A party spokesman said J&K Congress president Tariq Karra and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader and AICC general secretary GA Mir will address a party workers’ convention at Chawalgam in Kulgam, formally launching the campaign in Kashmir.
Through 'Hamari Riyasat Hamara Haq' (our state, our right), the Congress aims to reconnect with people at the grassroots level and build a momentum for democratic rights of the region, particularly the demand for the restoration of full statehood.
The ruling National Conference has also consistently called for the restoration of statehood, arguing that the current Union Territory setup and dual administrative control are impeding governance and development.
Although the Congress contested the last year's Assembly elections in alliance with the National Conference, it opted not to join the Omar Abdullah-led government. The party has made it clear that it would join the government only when full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir is restored.
