Cousin arrested for murder in Shimla Hotel

Shimla, June 14 (UNI) A day after the brutal murder of a young man from Chandigarh at a hotel near the Dhalli Tunnel in Shimla, police have arrested the main accused, the murdered man's cousin.

The victim, Akash Sharma, son of late Ajay Sharma and resident of Sector 26, Chandigarh, was found dead in Room No. 302 of Hotel Navratan.

He had checked into the hotel on June 11 along with his cousin Arjun Sharma, a resident of Sector 10, Panchkula, Haryana. The two reportedly had an argument on the night of June 12, during which Arjun allegedly hit Akash with a glass bottle and then slit his throat with the broken shard.

Arjun fled on his motorcycle at around 5:17 AM on June 13. The hotel staff discovered Akash's body later that morning and informed Dhalli Police Station, which immediately launched an investigation.

In a major breakthrough, Shimla Police, with the help of technical surveillance and human intelligence, arrested Arjun Sharma in the early hours of June 14 from the outskirts of Panchkula, Haryana. The arrest was made possible through coordinated efforts between Shimla and Panchkula Police.

Confirming the arrest, the Superintendent of Police, Shimla, said, “We are committed to swift justice. Arjun Sharma has been arrested under FIR No. 81/25, U/S 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is underway.”

Akash’s body has been sent for postmortem at IGMC Shimla. The murder has shocked locals and raised questions about safety in tourist accommodations.

Shimla Police have assured that they would continue to take prompt action to maintain law and order and ensure public safety.
