Cygni Energy, Indus Towers sign MoU to explore energy storage solutions

Hyderabad, Oct 5 (UNI) Cygni Energy Private Limited and Indus Towers Limited have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on sourcing energy storage solutions for telecom infrastructure in India.
Under the proposed collaboration, the companies will explore establishing Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) manufacturing capacity of up to 1.5 GWh to cater to the evolving energy requirements of telecom infrastructure.
The collaboration will also evaluate advanced battery technologies for telecom applications aimed at improving reliability and energy efficiency and supporting more sustainable telecom operations, Cygni incubated at IIT Madras, said in a release on Monday.
Cygni Energy Founder and CEO Venkat Rajaraman said the initiative would focus on developing manufacturing scale, technology capabilities and readiness to meet the changing energy requirements of the telecom infrastructure sector.
The company plans to develop capacity of up to 2 GWh and build a portfolio ranging from 100Ah solutions to higher-capacity 314Ah systems and emerging battery technologies, he said.
IIT Madras Institute Professor and ITEL Foundation Chairman Prof Ashok Jhunjhunwala said collaboration among users, startups, manufacturers and technology institutions could support the development and adoption of energy storage solutions in India.
Telecom infrastructure provided an important application for advancing battery technologies and manufacturing capabilities in the sector, he added.
The companies said such collaborations could contribute to indigenous innovation, supply-chain resilience and the adoption of next-generation energy storage solutions as India expands its digital and energy infrastructure.
