Dairy shed allegedly linked to Afzal Guru’s family demolished in J&K’s Baramulla

Srinagar, Oct 6 (UNI) Authorities on Tuesday demolished a dairy farm shed allegedly constructed on state land by relatives of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru in Baramulla town of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The structure, located on a flood basin near Gulnar Park in Baramulla town, was brought down during an anti-encroachment drive conducted by the Revenue Department. A sizeable contingent of police and Central Armed Police Forces was deployed at the site during the operation.
According to officials, the structure had been erected and occupied on state land.
The family, however, claimed that they were not served any notice before the demolition.
“The authorities appeared and demolished the structure spread over two marlas of land. The demolition was carried out around noon,” a family member said.
Officials said the shed was allegedly associated with Guru’s wife and had been used as a cow shed for nearly a decade.
Guru was convicted in the 2001 Parliament attack case and executed in February 2013.
An official in Baramulla said that several kanals of prime state land under illegal occupation were retrieved in Baramulla district on Tuesday.
The land, estimated to be worth crores of rupees, was restored to government control after the authorities removed the structures and occupation from the site.
One of the alleged encroachers was identified by officials as Tabasum Guroo, the wife of Parliament attack convict Mohammad Afzal Guru. The administration said further anti-encroachment drives would be carried out across the district and warned of action against those found occupying state land illegally.
Meanwhile, PDP leader Zuhaib Yousf Mir hit out at the authorities over the demolition drive, alleging that the action was part of an attempt to import a “narrative” from Kashmir.
