Vij fires salvo at Opposition: 'Why protest when SC is seized of matter?'

Ambala, Oct 6 (UNI) Haryana Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij on Tuesday delivered a blistering rebuttal to the Opposition's street protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, asking pointedly why agitation was needed when the Supreme Court had already stepped in.
"The Hon'ble Supreme Court took cognisance of this matter yesterday and issued a notice. If the Opposition believes in the country's legal system, there is no reason for any protest after that," Vij said, urging the Opposition to place its faith in the judiciary, which would decide only after hearing every side.
Turning the heat on the protesters, Vij demanded to know whom they hoped to pressure. "Whom are they trying to pressure with such demonstrations? Is this an attempt to bully the Supreme Court? That is wholly improper," he said. Wait for the verdict, he said, and then pursue whatever politics you like in a democracy. "But respecting the Supreme Court and abiding by its decision is the duty of every citizen and every political party in this country."
Reacting to former Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma's claim that Congress would have won had Bhupinder Singh Hooda not been made the face of the campaign, Vij dismissed the party's internal squabbles with a stinging jibe.
"There is no bird called Congress in Haryana, and no nest either. These are just scattered fragments," he said. Workers, farmers, traders, youth and senior citizens of the state had defeated the Congress three consecutive times and returned the BJP to power, he noted, proving the party "is of no use." Its leaders, he said, drift together and apart solely to serve personal interests. "Frankly, there is no party named Congress in Haryana."
Hitting back at Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, who had branded the BJP Government anti-farmer, Vij said Haryana's farmers were firmly behind the Government. Having voted the BJP to power three times in a row, he said, they had endorsed its policies in the clearest possible terms.
Vij concluded with a pointed message to the Opposition: "At the very least, learn to welcome the verdict of the people. In a democracy, the public mandate must be respected."
