Dharamshala, Oct 15 (UNI) The Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY) is helping rural youth gain market-oriented skills and secure employment, Ministry of Rural Development Director Pawan Nayyar said on Thursday.
Addressing an awareness camp organised by the District Rural Development Agency at the Zila Parishad auditorium here, Nayyar said that over 18.47 lakh youth had been trained nationally under the scheme, of whom more than 12.43 lakh had secured employment.
In Himachal Pradesh, 20,946 of the 22,000 youth registered under the scheme's first phase had received training, while 16,413 had secured jobs, placing the state fifth nationally, he said.
Nayyar stressed the need to publicise the scheme at the Panchayat level to ensure that more eligible rural youth benefited from skill training and employment opportunities.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Vinay Kumar urged Panchayat representatives and self-help groups to spread awareness about the scheme, saying it would help boost rural incomes and local economic activity.
District Development Officer Abhineet Katyayan said training was offered in sectors including IT, tourism and hospitality, healthcare, retail, construction, automobiles, banking and financial services, and beauty and wellness.
The second phase would also cover remote hilly areas, with Panchakarma to be included in the training curriculum.
