Delay on Statehood could compel moving to SC: Farooq Avdullah

Srinagar, June 21( UNI) National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Friday reiterated his party’s long-standing demand for the early restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, warning that continued delays could compel the party to approach the Supreme Court.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a day-long party convention in south Kashmir Abdullah said, “It has been eight months since the formation of the government, yet there is no movement on the restoration of statehood. We are waiting patiently, but if unnecessary delays continue, we will be left with no option but to seek legal recourse.”

He emphasized that the National Conference will continue its democratic and peaceful struggle for the rights of the people but cautioned that the prolonged denial of basic political rights would not be accepted silently

The three time former chief minister said that once statehood will be restored, they will get the powers to address the issues .

Addressing the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, Abdullah urged wisdom and restraint. “I pray that God grants wisdom to both Iran and Israel, and that they resolve their issues through dialogue, as this conflict can only be resolved peacefully,” he said.

He urged world leaders to advocate for talks and called on US President Donald Trump to play a role in bringing peace between the two countries.
