Delhi Govt. orders strict action on prison officials overstaying postings & corruption complaints

New Delhi, Nov 2 (UNI) The Delhi government has cracked down on jail administration following a high-level review meeting, and as part of a major move targeting internal accountability, authorities have ordered that all prison officials who have been posted at the same location for more than three years must be immediately identified and transferred.
Under the new directives, a complete list of officers overstaying their postings in sensitive departments such as the CPRO, Factory, Procurement wings, jails meant for first time offenders, economic offences and civil prisoners, must be soon submitted.
Additionally, the in- detail ten-year posting records have been sought for specific officials facing allegations of corruption and misconduct, while the government has mandated strict oversight on prison welfare and security.
The officials concerned have been asked to verify the quality and market rates of food and medicines supplied to inmates to prevent any financial irregularities.
With greater emphasis to curb illegal activities behind bars, authorities are exploring advanced scanning technology to detect smuggled tobacco and narcotics without causing harm.
Furthermore, prison authorities have been given strict deadlines to submit Action Taken Reports (ATRs) on all pending complaints regarding prison security lapses and staff misconduct.
Speaking in this regard, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood has said, "Our administration maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, extortion, and systemic inefficiency within our correctional institutions."
He noted that rotating officers who have remained in the same postings for years is a vital step to prevent vested interests, ensure transparency, and enforce absolute integrity across all Delhi prisons.
"We are committed to modernizing prison security, enforcing strict oversight on inmate welfare, and ensuring that every single complaint is addressed swiftly," he added.
The minister has emphasized that "public trust in the law enforcement and prison administration is non-negotiable, and we will take decisive action against anyone compromising governance or inmate safety." UNI APS CDS
