Public-private partnership essential to making Delhi a better medical hub: CM

New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said the government is working to strengthen healthcare facilities across the national capital, with a focus on disease prevention and providing affordable medical services to residents.
She said well-equipped Ayushman Arogya Mandirs are being established close to residential areas, while healthcare infrastructure was being strengthened across the city.
Speaking at the inauguration of a newly developed In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) Centre at Sant Parmanand Hospital, Gupta emphasised that collaboration between the public and private sectors are equally important in making Delhi a better medical hub.
The Chief Minister said the Delhi government is committed to providing quality and affordable healthcare to every citizen. Under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, the government has added an additional Rs 5 lakh to the Centre's existing Rs 5 lakh health cover, taking the total annual coverage to Rs 10 lakh.
According to Gupta, more than 8.94 lakh Ayushman cards have been approved so far, while over 3.09 lakh senior citizens aged above 70 have been enrolled under the Ayushman Vay Vandana scheme.
In addition, more than 5.28 lakh beneficiaries of widow and disability pensions, along with their families, have been covered under the scheme.
She said the government is expanding healthcare facilities at every level, from primary healthcare centres to major hospitals.
So far, 415 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and 29 Jan Aushadhi Kendras have been made operational in Delhi.
Five projects worth Rs 503.49 crore have been undertaken to expand hospital infrastructure. Modern medical equipment and facilities, including a Neuro ICU, have been developed at GB Pant Hospital, while 300 dialysis machines have been made available across 16 government hospitals.
Gupta said the number of MBBS seats in medical colleges have been increased from 595 to 820, while postgraduate (PG) seats would rise from 553 to 762.
A medical college is also being developed at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka at a cost of Rs 805.99 crore.
To strengthen healthcare services, more than 1,200 nurses and 954 senior resident doctors have been appointed, while over 4,000 additional posts have been approved.
The government is also providing 56 types of free tests for newborns, conducting 10,000 free cancer screenings and offering free HPV vaccination to girls aged between nine and 14 years.
Meanwhile, the newly developed IVF Centre at Sant Parmanand Hospital is equipped with modern reproductive medicine facilities and offers advanced treatment procedures, including In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) and Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI).UNI APS AAB
