Delhi Police removes encroachments at busy markets in several areas of central district

New Delhi, Sep 18 (UNI) To maintain orderly, accessible and obstruction-free public spaces, the Delhi Police, Central District has conducted focused encroachment removal drives through areas under Police Stations including Paharganj, Kamla Market, Karol Bagh and Turkman Gate Chowki, that are amongst most congested areas in the city.
The police team conducted a focused drive in the busy market area of Paharganj and along the stretch from Pul Paharganj towards New Delhi Railway Station and the Delhi Reservation Office, where unauthorised vendors operating without valid licences had occupied the footpath and portions of the road.
During the drive, various unauthorised vending set-ups, including carts, tea stalls, bidi/ cigarette stalls and other temporary structures/ articles occupying public space, were removed.
The action helped clear the footpath and road space and facilitated smoother movement of pedestrians and other road users along the busy stretch, a police official said.
Meanwhile, the team of Kamla Market police station conducted an encroachment removal drive in the vicinity of Ajmeri Gate Clock Tower and outside the market area.
Unauthorised encroachments, unnecessary articles and other obstructions occupying public space were cleared from the area.
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central District, Rohit Rajbir Singh, the action was aimed at ensuring that footpaths and public pathways remain accessible to pedestrians and that avoidable obstructions do not impede the movement of commuters, local residents and other road users.
Similarly, at Karol Bagh, an encroachment removal drive was conducted by cops on Ajmal Khan Road and in the vicinity of Karol Bagh Metro Station, where roadside vendors, and stalls and market articles spread on roads had occupied public space and were causing obstruction to pedestrian movement.
The encroachments and temporary vending set-ups were cleared from the area, resulting in better accessibility and smoother movement for commuters, particularly passengers using Karol Bagh Metro Station, as well as pedestrians and local residents.
At Turkman Gate, a focused encroachment removal drive was held in and around the area, where extensive roadside encroachments were affecting traffic movement and causing inconvenience to commuters.
DCP Central has said that police remains committed to maintaining orderly and accessible public spaces and facilitating smooth movement of the public.
He added that regular field-level monitoring would continue, and necessary action would be taken against unauthorised occupation and avoidable obstructions in public areas.
Sources say that the administration is going to be strict against encroachments, and there is a likelihood of encroachment removal drives to be conducted at those places across the city, where public movement and convenience is affected the most, and people are not able to have ease of movement due to the irregular commercial activities on road sides that end up consuming public spaces.
