Diplomacy can play key role in advancing vision of viksit Bharat: LG Sandhu

Patna, Sep 27 (UNI) Delhi Lieutenant Governor and former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Sunday said diplomacy in the changing global environment was no longer confined to relations between countries, but could serve as an important instrument for promoting economic growth, investment, technology, education, skills and employment opportunities.
Addressing a lecture on “Diplomacy as a Catalyst Fueling the Vision of Viksit Bharat”, organised under the aegis of Patliputra Pragya Pravah at Bihar Lok Bhavan here, Sandhu said diplomacy could act as an effective catalyst in India's endeavour to become a developed nation.
Drawing on his experience as a former diplomat, Sandhu spoke about India's expanding role globally, the changing world order and the possibilities for cooperation with different countries.
He said economic and technological cooperation had become an important component of modern diplomacy.
Connecting India''s youth with global opportunities through education, skill development, innovation and entrepreneurship could provide fresh momentum to the country''s development journey, he said.
Sandhu said India's strengths lay in its young population, talent, democratic institutions, entrepreneurial spirit and rich cultural heritage.
By linking these capabilities with global partnerships, India could further strengthen its role not only in economic development but also in knowledge, technology and innovation, he said.
Referring to the Indian civilisational concept of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, the former diplomat said India's traditional outlook had been based on cooperation and dialogue with the world.
Cultural ties, the Indian diaspora and people-to-people contacts also played an important role in strengthening relations between countries, he added.
He stressed the need for young people to develop skills in line with emerging requirements and opportunities.
Sandhu said the goal of a developed India was not limited to economic prosperity, but also included a better standard of living, modern infrastructure, quality education, healthcare, employment opportunities and active participation of citizens.
Replying to a question, he said keeping pace with developed countries would be necessary for India to progress rapidly in the future.
He highlighted the potential of artificial intelligence and innovations such as semiconductors as major game changers.
Bihar Governor Lieutenant General (Retd) Syed Ata Hasnain, speaking on the occasion, said India's development journey needed to be linked with its rich knowledge tradition and civilisational heritage. India needed to become a creator of knowledge rather than merely a consumer of it, he said.
Hasnain said Bihar's historic centres such as Nalanda, Rajgir, Bodh Gaya, Vaishali and Vikramshila had been globally recognised for their contributions to India's knowledge, spiritual and intellectual traditions.
Connecting this heritage with modern education, research, innovation and global cooperation could provide fresh momentum to the vision of Viksit Bharat, he added. UNI RS SAS
