Director Ryan Coogler reveals Denzel Washington will star in ‘Black Panther 3’

Los Angeles, June 6 (UNI) Director Ryan Coogler, best known for making the MCU’s highly successful ‘Black Panther’ film, said actor Denzel Washington is now set to star in ‘Black Panther 3’.
Coogler, 39, revealed that working with the ‘The Taking of Pelham 123’ star has been on his bucket list for a while, with Washington being his first choice the moment he thought of the third part, reports People.
Speaking to ‘7PM in Brooklyn’ podcast, the ‘Creed’ director said “Denzel is family at this point…I’ve been trying to work with him since day one.”
“I think he’s the greatest living actor, and in terms of what he means to our culture, forget about it. I’ve been talking to him about this for a long time,” he added.
In November 2024, Washington, 70, let slip that he and Coogler were in talks about the upcoming film, which Coogler was surprised to learn.
“I was surprised when he mentioned it, but it’s not like it’s not true,” he told host Carmelo Anthony.
The ‘Glory’ actor speaking to Australian Today, confirmed the news, during the promotion of ‘Gladiator 2’. He said “For me it’s about the filmmakers. Especially at this point in my career, I am only interested in working with the best,” Washington said. “I don’t know how many more films I’m going to make. It’s probably not that many. I want to do things I haven’t done.”
Adding that he’ll be playing Othello in his upcoming Shakespearean drama, he told reporters “Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next ‘Black Panther.’ After that, I’m going to do the film ‘Othello,’ After that, I’m going to do King Lear. After that, I’m going to retire.”
Washington’s role in ‘Black Panther 3’ would indeed be poetic, as Chadwick Boseman, the late ‘Black Panther’ star, prior to his death in 2020 revealed, that Washington paid for his acting school one summer and as such “There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington,” reports Variety.
