Chennai, Apr 18 (UNI) A day after saying that any decision on NDA forming
a coalition government after the 2026 Assembly elections will be taken by
the BJP High Command, newly appointed Tamil Nadu BJP President Nainar
Nagendran on Thursday urged the media not to fuel speculation or attempt to
create a rift in the AIADMK-BJP alliance revived a nearly two year hiatus.
Talking to reporters here, Mr Nagendran, who is also the BJP Floor Leader
in the State Assembly, said, “Usually, you ask me a question. But this time,
let me answer it before you ask. It's like a Vivek (late popular Tamil film
comedian) comedy scene—I already know what’s on your mind.”
He asserted that there is no room for speculation, as any decision regarding the
alliance will be taken after discussions between Union Home Minister Amit Shah
and AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS).
He also appealed to the media not to create unnecessary confusion. “Please don’t
stir doubts or try to divide the alliance. These kinds of attempts by media friends are
not needed,” he said.
Mr Nagendran also made a polite request: “I kindly ask you not to raise these kinds
of questions with anyone. Don’t attempt to break the AIADMK-BJP alliance. Our focus
should be on ousting the DMK government from power.”
His statement reaffirms the BJP’s commitment to its ties with AIADMK while cautioning
against media-driven narratives that could impact alliance dynamics ahead of future
elections.
Mr Amit Shah had announced that the AIADMK and BJP would jointly form the
government after the 2026 polls, asserting that a coalition government would be
in place--a concept which was never see in the annals of Tamil Nadu politics and
electoral history.
While responding to a question on Ministerial berths for BJP MLAs, he said it would
be decided after the elections.
However, Mr Palaniswami, speaking to reporters yesterday for the first time after
the alliance was revived with the saffron party, categorically ruled out a coalition
government in the State and said the media has misunderstood Mr Amit Shah's
remarks that the NDA will be led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the National
and mentioned his name (EPS) who would lead at the State level.
