Eatala Rajender alleges severe pollution from Jawahar Nagar dumping yard

Hyderabad, Oct 27 (UNI) Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender on Tuesday alleged that toxic leachate from the Jawahar Nagar dumping yard had severely polluted Edulabad Pedda Cheruvu, destroying fish stocks and affecting the livelihoods and health of local residents.
As part of the Jana Sankalpa Yatra, Rajender visited the lake in Ghatkesar mandal of Medchal-Malkajgiri district on the first day of his four-day padayatra. Local fishermen complained that the lake, which once supported thousands of families, had become polluted, while cattle and sheep were also dying after consuming contaminated water.
Speaking to the media, Rajender alleged that polluted water was seeping into borewells and open wells, while foul air from the dumping yard was contributing to respiratory ailments and skin problems. He also referred to reports of kidney diseases and cancer among residents, though these claims were not independently verified.
Rajender said the 60-km padayatra, which began at Edulabad, would culminate in a public meeting at Jawahar Nagar on October 30. BJP MPs, legislators and other party leaders are expected to participate in the campaign.
He criticised the State government for failing to resolve the issue despite earlier legal proceedings and representations, and demanded a comprehensive project report to process waste scientifically, generate electricity and produce organic manure. He also called for modern, pollution-free waste disposal facilities away from densely populated areas.
Warning of a larger agitation if the problem remained unresolved, Rajender said he would continue fighting for the affected residents, particularly fishermen and families dependent on traditional livelihoods.
