Electricity tariffs to go up 15 pc in Sri Lanka from June 12

Colombo, June 11 (UNI) The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL), the country's electricity regulator, has approved a 15% nationwide hike in electricity tariffs, which will come into effect from tomorrow.

In a statement, the PUCSL said tariffs for electric vehicle charging stations will remain unchanged.

The tariffs come after a comprehensive government review and public consultations on what was earlier a proposed hike of 18.3% electricity by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

After review, the PUSL reduced the original number, limiting the tariff increase to 15%, reports Daily Mirror SL.

The commission noted that the impact of the tariff revision will vary across user groups. Higher-consuming households and non-domestic users are expected to contribute more significantly to overall revenue.

The PUCSL emphasised that the tariff decision adheres strictly to the pricing formula established by law and reflects public feedback received during consultations. The Commission has also committed to publishing details on how public suggestions influenced the final decision. UNI ANV SSP
