Empowering Nagaland women entrepreneurs through market

Dimapur, Oct 15 (UNI) The three-day annual Women Entrepreneurs Network Nagaland (WENN) Bazaar commenced at the Agri Expo site in Chumoukedima district, under the theme “One Nagaland, One Marketplace”, on Thursday, aiming to empower women entrepreneurs of Nagaland and foster a strong community where they can connect, collaborate and thrive through networking, mentorship, capacity-building and advocacy.
Advisor to agriculture department Mhathung Yanthan inaugurated the fifth edition of the market, bringing together 167 women entrepreneurs from all 17 districts of the state to showcase their produce.
The products range from food and beverages, processed food, handicrafts and handlooms to retail items and products from self-help groups.
The bazaar has expanded from 20 participants in its inaugural edition in 2022 to 167 entrepreneurs this year.
In his address, Yanthan lauded the WENN for collaboration among women entrepreneurs, exchanging experiences and strengthening their businesses.
He observed that empowering women entrepreneurs will benefit not only individual businesses but also families, communities and the state's overall socio-economic development.
Yanthan laid emphasis on value addition and linking local products to national and international markets.
“Such efforts could enhance the value of local produce and generate better returns for entrepreneurs,” he added.
The legislator also stressed the need for maintaining quality, consistency and market standards.
He further said coordinated efforts would provide entrepreneurs with access to technology, training, processing facilities, packaging, marketing support and wider market networks.
Stating that Nagaland had no shortage of talent, resources or opportunities, Yanthan said the challenge was to translate these advantages into entrepreneurship, employment and economy.
