Ex-JE Tek Chand gets 4 years' rigorous imprisonment, Rs 10,000 fine in Faridabad bribery case

Faridabad, Oct 30 (UNI) A Faridabad court on Friday sentenced Tek Chand, then Junior Engineer (JE) with Municipal Corporation Faridabad, to four years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in a bribery case.
The conviction follows effective prosecution by the State Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (SV&ACB), in line with Haryana's zero-tolerance policy against corruption.
Additional Sessions Judge Ashok Kumar pronounced the verdict on October 30, 2026, in FIR No. 03 dated May 19, 2020, registered at SV&ACB Police Station, Faridabad. The accused was held guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe.
The complainant, a contractor, had taken a contract in May 2019 to demolish an old water tank in Sector-8, Faridabad. Completion of the Measurement Book (MB) was required to prepare the bill.
The JE allegedly took Rs 14,000 as bribe to complete the MB, after which the file was sent to the accounts branch of the Municipal Corporation. Once the bill was ready, he again demanded Rs 14,000 for signing the file, threatening not to sign it otherwise.
Acting on the complaint, the SV&ACB Faridabad team arrested Tek Chand on May 19, 2020, while accepting the Rs 14,000 bribe. The bribe amount was recovered from him and a case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The Bureau filed the challan in court on September 1, 2021. Based on the evidence presented during trial, the court convicted him.
