Fadnavis Launches Bappa.Org Initiative To Take Maharashtra Ganeshotsav Traditions To Global Audience

Mumbai, Sept 30 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday launched the digital platform Bappa.Org as part of an initiative to document and showcase the cultural and social traditions associated with Ganeshotsav and take them to a global audience, with an effort also being made to secure World Heritage recognition for the festival.
Fadnavis inaugurated the platform at a programme held at The Asiatic Society by uploading the story of the Ganapati celebrations at his own home. He said Bappa Org had been developed to present to the world the social interaction, unity, enthusiasm and collective energy generated through public Ganeshotsav celebrations.
As part of the initiative, the Chief Minister also flagged off the state's cultural vehicle Bappa Rath. One of the main attractions of the Rath is a 12 foot high artwork in the shape of a modak, created by students of Sir J J School of Art along with sculptors.
Fadnavis said the initiative aims to reach nearly 40,000 villages across Maharashtra. Ganesh idols from these villages, their local Ganeshotsav traditions and distinctive stories associated with the celebrations will be documented and presented to audiences worldwide through digital platforms.
The platform will also showcase different forms of Lord Ganesh found in India and abroad, experiences of devotees and the changes that have taken place in Ganesh devotion over time. Fadnavis said worship of Lord Ganesh was not confined to India and was practised in several Asian countries. He pointed out that temples dedicated to Lord Ganesh also exist in countries such as Japan.
According to the Chief Minister, Bappa Org will seek to document the relationship people have with Lord Ganesh from Bal Ganesh traditions to large public Ganeshotsav celebrations. The initiative will present the emotional connections, beliefs and traditions associated with Ganesh as well as the wider social character of the festival.
Fadnavis said the broader objective is to give Ganeshotsav greater international recognition and pursue an effort to secure World Heritage status for the festival.
