Imphal, July 2 (UNI) In a continuing effort to suppress crimes and underground activities, Manipur Police and security forces have stepped up intelligence-driven combing and cordon-and-search operations across the state.
These efforts, carried out over the past 24 hours, led to the arrest of five active members belonging to various banned underground groups, police said today.
An active cadre of a proscribed outfit was apprehended from the Keirao Khunou area under Irilbung Police Station. The individual was reportedly involved in extortion activities, specifically targeting educational institutions in the region.
In another operation, an active member of a different faction was arrested from Khurai Kongkham Leikai under Porompat Police Station. A mobile phone was seized from the suspect.
In a separate raid the same day, security forces nabbed another cadre from Khurai Chaithabi Leirak. A mobile phone was also recovered from this individual.
From the Andro Khuman area, security forces arrested a suspected member of another proscribed group. Authorities recovered a mobile device during the arrest.
In a high-profile operation near Kekrupat, a self-styled senior commander of a Zeliangrong insurgent faction was taken into custody. The suspect is believed to hold a key leadership position within the group.
Officials have stated that these arrests represent a significant disruption to underground networks operating in Manipur. Combing operations and surveillance activities will continue in strategic locations, with security forces determined to dismantle extortion rackets and armed cadres across the state.
