Flipkart scales up operations in West Bengal

Kolkata, Sep 29 (UNI) E-commerce platform Flipkart is scaling up its West Bengal operations ahead of The Big Billion Days 2026, with its Haringhata fulfilment centre sending products to more than 5,000 PIN codes across India as the company gears up for a sharp rise in festive sales.
The Haringhata facility has 50 lakh cubic feet of storage across six mezzanine levels and uses automated storage and retrieval systems, robotic packaging arms, cross-belt sorters and a nine-kilometre conveyor network to process and move orders.
Flipkart's supply chain network in West Bengal now spans more than 300 fulfilment centres, mother hubs and last-mile delivery facilities, supporting over 1.2 lakh direct and indirect jobs. More than 66,000 sellers from the state use the platform to reach customers across India, while the festive season generates thousands of additional employment opportunities.
Through its Samarth initiative, Flipkart showcases nearly 29,000 products made by West Bengal's weavers and craftspeople through a dedicated online storefront. In Shantipur, more than 250 Tant and Jamdani weavers and sellers use the platform to reach customers nationwide, generating annual sales of over Rs 100 crore, the company said.
The Bengal operations form part of a nationwide expansion by Flipkart's logistics arm, Ekart, ahead of the festive season. Ekart has added 14 million cubic feet of warehousing capacity, taking its storage capacity up by 50 per cent, while technology and automation upgrades have increased peak processing capacity by more than 30 per cent.
More than 900 additional delivery hubs have been added for the festive season to expand last-mile coverage and support higher volumes of same-day and next-day deliveries.
The network now comprises more than 8,200 Ekart facilities, including fulfilment centres, sortation hubs and last-mile delivery operations, besides nearly 1,200 Flipkart Minutes micro-fulfilment centres across more than 150 cities.
Ekart has also added more than 750 PIN codes to Flipkart's delivery network, extending its festive reach to locations including Leh and Kargil, parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, and communities across the North East.
To accelerate fulfilment for MSMEs, small sellers, weavers and artisans, more than 2.5 crore units of their products have been pre-positioned at Ekart fulfilment centres. Seventy additional pick-up stations have also been opened in key seller hubs.
Ekart's third-party logistics franchise network has doubled to 600 within two months, the company said.
Flipkart has announced more than 2.5 lakh direct and indirect employment opportunities for the festive season, including nearly 75,000 for first-time workforce entrants. Around 60 per cent of the new opportunities are in last-mile delivery.
The Big Billion Days 2026, Flipkart's annual flagship festival, will open to all customers on October 9, with early access beginning on October 8.
This year's campaign, 'Luck Badal Sakta Hai, Yahan Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai', builds on last year's 'Yahan Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai'.
In Kolkata, Flipkart is taking the campaign into the city's everyday commute through 'Kothaye Jaabe Dada?', an activation drawing on the city's association with BBD Bagh and its iconic bus culture. select buses and bus tickets will carry the festive campaign.
Flipkart has also extended its zero-commission policy to all fashion products on its marketplace, removing the earlier Rs 1,000 price ceiling. The move covers around 90,000 transacting fashion sellers, including MSMEs and direct-to-consumer brands.
The company said Gen Z consumers account for nearly 50 per cent of the audience for Flipkart Fashion.
"Every year, The Big Billion Days raises the bar for what customers expect: faster deliveries and wider reach," Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President and Head, Supply Chain, Flipkart Group, said.
"Across Ekart and Flipkart Minutes, we now operate over 8,200 facilities, allowing us to take the festive experience to more customers while helping sellers reach buyers they could not reach before," he said.
