Former Bengal minister Indranil Sen appears before ED officials

Kolkata, Sep 30 (UNI) Former West Bengal minister Indranil Sen on Wednesday appeared before Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials here following summons from the central anti-money laundering agency over allegations of massive financial corruption involving the sale of entry passes for Durga Puja pandals.
Sen arrived around 11 am at the ED office located within the CGO Complex in Salt Lake, a day after agency sleuths searched his house and multiple other premises linked to the alleged graft.
Sen, also a noted Bengali singer, faces allegations of misappropriating crores of rupees through the sale of fake passes during Durga Puja while he was a minister in the erstwhile Trinamool Congress government.
According to sources, investigators preliminarily estimate a fraud amounting to approximately Rs 50 crore to Rs 60 crore involving the sale of "fake passes".
It is alleged that Indranil and his wife, Madhuchhanda Sen, engaged in illegal business activities surrounding Durga Puja.
The case was based on a complaint filed by an individual, Joydeep Mukhopadhyay, who accused the couple of being involved in corruption involving crores of rupees.
An FIR was previously lodged at Bowbazar Police Station based on his complaint. Mukhopadhyay alleged that an initiative was launched to sell tickets for a 'preview show' and 'privileged Puja entry' under the banner of Durga Puja, misleading the public by using UNESCO's name.
The complaint alleged that the programme was promoted in a manner suggesting direct endorsement or partnership by UNESCO. However, the complaint claimed that UNESCO never consented to any such commercial agreement or partnership.
Subsequently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) initiated an investigation into the matter. It is alleged that Indranil's wife, Madhuchhanda, is associated with an entity named 'Mass Art'. The allegation further states that the organisation was established within six months of Kolkata's Durga Puja receiving UNESCO recognition in 2021. UNI BGA/SSP NST CDS
