Four more die due to rain-induced mishaps in Meghalaya

Shillong, May 31 (UNI) Four more people, including three minors, died and four others were injured on Saturday due to rain-induced mishaps across Meghalaya, taking the total death toll to six during the past 48 hours.
Meghalaya Disaster Management Authority (MDMA) said that a 14-year-old boy Mebanskhem Mukhim of Kharang village under Mawkynrew Block in East Khasi Hills district died due to a tree uprooting.
A seven-year-old girl Batgrikchi Sangma, and Brime Sangma (13) from Kentapara village under Dadenggre Block in West Garo Hills district died in lightning strike, and Nikolas Kharpran (36) drowned at Umlew river at Mawkduk village in Ri-Bhoi district.
“There has been extensive damage reported across 23 blocks across 49 villages of the state, damaging houses, roads, and other infrastructure,” the MDMA said.
Moreover, there have been damages reported due to landslides, uprooting of trees, flash floods, houses, roads, bridges, and electricity poles in East Khasi Hills, West Garo Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, South West Khasi HillsRi-Bhoi and West Khasi Hills districts.
Meanwhile, relief and rehabilitation works are ongoing in the affected areas, despite the incessant rainfall.
