Mumbai, June 1 (UNI) Four teenage boys tragically drowned while swimming in Pazhar Lake near Chakan in Pune district on Saturday, officials confirmed on Sunday.
The boys were reportedly unable to gauge the depth of the lake while swimming. When they failed to return home, their families alerted authorities.
The victims have been identified as Omkar Babasaheb Hange (13), Shlok Jagdish Mankar (11), Prasad Shankar Deshmukh (11), and Naitik Gopal More (12), all residents of Medankarwadi. They belonged to families of migrant workers who had relocated to Chakan for employment.
According to police, a search operation was launched after the boys’ clothes and footwear were discovered on the lake’s bank. Local residents, Chakan police, and trekking groups joined the rescue efforts, and by evening, all four bodies were recovered from the water.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the local community, underscoring the dangers of unsupervised swimming in natural water bodies.
