Fresh Low Pressure area to form over Bay on Oct 23, NE monsoon rains set to intensify

Chennai, Oct 20 (UNI) A Fresh Low Pressure area is likely to form over the Bay on October 23, which was expected to further intensify the Northeast monsoon rainfall activity over Tamil Nadu, Met office said on Tuesday afternoon.
It said an upper air cyclonic circulation lay centred over Gulf of Thailand and adjoining Thailand and Myanmar at 0830 hrs today. It is likely to emerge into north Andaman Sea by tomorrow morning.
Thereafter it will move west-north-westwards and under its influence a Low Pressure area is likely to form over Southeast and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal around October 23. Then it is likely to move north-westwards and intensify further.
It said the next update on this fresh system would be issued tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the existing Well Marked Low Pressure area over Southwest Arabian sea persisted at the same region. It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards maintaining its intensity of well marked low pressure area during the next 12 hours. Thereafter,
it is likely to continue to move further west-northwestwards as a low pressure area till tomorrow, and then west-southwestwards towards Somalia coast on October 22.
Met office said several parts of Tamil Nadu, which had been receiving heavy to very heavy rains, would continue to receive wetspells in the coming days, as the Northeast monsoon was expected to gather more steam with the formation of a new system.
It said since the onset of Northeast monsoon, Tamil Nadu has received 12.1 per cent above average rainfall from October 1-20.
Meanwhile, Chennai city and its adjoining Northern districts are receiving good showers during the last 2-3 days. While the city, where the sun has been playing hide and seek amid balmy weather conditions, has received good rains late last night and early this morning, its suburbs and several parts of the state has been experiencing widespread rains.
It has forecast light to moderate rain with light thunderstorm activity will occur over Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Ranipet, Vellore, Tirupattur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Nilgiris, Cauvery districts of Mayiladuthurai and Tiruvarur, Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Theni, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, and southern Kanyakumari, Virudhunagarand districts of Tamilnadu and Karaikal and Puducherry area today.
