Gadre, Pandey seize early lead at NCR Cup Junior & Amateur Golf Tournament

Noida, Sept 23 (UNI) Shashank Sachin Gadre and Chaitanya Pandey emerged as the early pacesetters as the 26th NCR Cup Junior & Amateur Golf Tournament got underway at Jaypee Greens Wish Town here on Wednesday.
The three-day championship, being played on a par-71 layout from September 23 to 25, is an official World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) counting event and features leading junior and amateur golfers from across the country.
Gadre fired a four-under 67 (32-35) in Category A and the combined boys' competition to take a two-shot lead. His front nine proved decisive as he picked up four birdies.
Arshvant Srivastava and Smyaan Gupta shared second place at two-under 69.
In Category B boys, Pandey produced a one-under 70 (37-33) to move into fourth place on the combined leaderboard and open a commanding seven-shot lead in his category. Three birdies on the back nine helped him pull clear of Digvijay Singh Rathore, Aditya Tiwari and Ayan Khan, who were tied for second at 77.
The girls' competition saw a three-way tie at the top, with Aahana Kashyap, Gauri Sharma and Myra Kumar carding identical five-over 76s.
Dalisha Chetry led Category B girls with a 77, while Samaira Tomar also shot 77 to remain one stroke behind the leaders.
In the amateur men's section, Ritik Madan led with a one-over 72, followed by Harssh Rana (76) and Kushagra Gaur (77). Neetu Bansal topped the amateur ladies' category with an 88, one stroke ahead of Anoop Singh.
The NCR Cup, organised under the aegis of the Delhi Golf Society, has developed into an important platform for junior golfers seeking competitive exposure and WAGR points.
The tournament's WAGR status also provides Indian juniors an opportunity to earn world ranking points at home while gaining experience in a competitive national field.
Round two will be played on Thursday, with the final round scheduled for Friday.
