Gang supplying mule bank accounts to cyber fraudsters busted in Hyderabad; three held

Hyderabad, Oct 30 (UNI) The Commissioner’s Task Force, Charminar Zone, along with Attapur Police, has busted a gang allegedly procuring bank accounts from local residents and selling them to cyber fraudsters for monetary consideration, police said on Friday.
Three persons were arrested in connection with the racket, while two other accused based in Jaipur, Rajasthan, are yet to be apprehended, said K.S. Rao, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Commissioner’s Task Force, in a release here.
The arrested were identified as Syed Abbas Ullah Hussaini (24), Mohammed Talha Khan (23) and Nawab Mohammed Rahemuddin Khan (20), all residents of Hussaini Alam in Hyderabad.
Police said the gang procured bank accounts with the help of local persons and sold the account kits, including passbooks, ATM cards, PINs, linked SIM cards and customer IDs, to two persons identified as Vijay and Babu Lal of Jaipur.
The arrested accused allegedly received Rs 20,000 to Rs 25,000 for each account and sent the account kits to the buyers through courier.
Investigation revealed that the gang had arranged 83 bank accounts in 22 branches of various cooperative and other banks across Hyderabad.
Of these, 11 accounts were allegedly linked to 14 cyber fraud transactions reported in different parts of the country, including Hyderabad, Telangana, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Delhi.
The 83 accounts were allegedly used to route about Rs 10.04 crore obtained through cyber frauds, with the amounts reportedly withdrawn on the same day.
The accounts identified in connection with cybercrimes included six in Telangana State Cooperative Apex Bank, four in Agrasen Cooperative Urban Bank and one in SVC Cooperative Bank.
Police seized eight passbooks of Telangana State Cooperative Apex Bank and three mobile phones from the arrested persons.
Cases have been registered at Attapur and Kalwakurthy police stations under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
Police cautioned the public against renting, selling or sharing bank accounts, ATM cards, cheque books, SIM cards, UPI IDs or internet banking credentials with unknown persons for monetary benefits. Allowing others to use bank accounts for suspicious transactions could lead to account freezing, investigation and criminal prosecution, depending on the circumstances.
People who suspect misuse of their bank accounts have been advised to contact their banks immediately or report the matter through the cybercrime helpline 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.
The operation was conducted by Charminar Task Force Inspector C Yadender and his team, along with Attapur Police.
