Gehlot warns successor CM Sharma of 'conspiracy' within ruling BJP to dethrone him

Jodhpur, June 25 (UNI) Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today warned his successor Bhajan Lal Sharma of a "conspiracy" being hatched within the ruling BJP to dethrone him.

The opposition Congress senior leader's advice came during a chat with the media here today, in response to a query that Chief Minister Sharma had lauded his own government's achievements. CM Sharma had said the achievements and development works under his one and a half years regime are much more commendable, compared to the five-year term of the previous Congress government (under Gehlot).

Reacting to the statement, Gehlot said: "This is commendable that the Chief Minister has the courage of praising his own government's achievements. However, he should not think that all is good in his government and there is no criticism or dismay against the functioning of the government.

"We are in Opposition, we also have feed back on ground realities. He should not think that we do criticism for the sake of criticism. The CM should not be overwhelmed by the 'feel-good' sense," the three-time ex-CM counseled.

"By now, people in his own ruling party have been indulging in activities against him, to dethrone him. In New Delhi and in Rajasthan too, serious conspiracy is being hatched against him. He is not sensing (understanding) it; we have tried to convey the sense to him," Gehlot added.

"We are trying to convey the sense that a young incumbent, a first-timer MLA has been entrusted (with governance). Given a chance, he should rise to the occasion to prove him and maintain the position (by virtue of performance)."

Gehlot expressed his disappointment over the discontinuing of various schemes and programmes launched under his previous government (Dec 2018-Dec 2023).
