Ghaziabad District Excise Officer Sanjay Kumar suspended with immediate effect

Lucknow, Oct 30 (UNI) On the instructions of the state Excise and Prohibition Minister (Independent Charge), Nitin Agarwal, the Uttar Pradesh government on Friday has suspended Ghaziabad District Excise Officer Sanjay Kumar with immediate effect for gross negligence in his duties, failure to curb the sale of illegal liquor, and violation of service conduct rules.

Disciplinary and departmental proceedings have been initiated against him under the Uttar Pradesh Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules. A formal office order was issued by the government in this regard on Friday.

In accordance with a government order, a joint administrative team consisting of the City Magistrate, Sub-District Magistrate Sadar, and Tehsildar Sadar was formed under the chairmanship of the Additional District Magistrate (City), Ghaziabad, to address complaints regarding the functioning of various night clubs, bars, and restaurants in Ghaziabad district. The joint team's surprise inspection and thorough investigation uncovered several serious irregularities.

During the investigation, it was found that certain night clubs and bars in the district were illegally serving liquor without an occasional bar license. Furthermore, liquor permitted for sale within the borders of other states was also being illegally sold, flouting regulations.
Sanjay Kumar was found prima facie guilty of violating the Uttar Pradesh Government Employees' Conduct Rules for failing to prevent these serious financial and administrative irregularities while serving as District Excise Officer.
During the period of suspension, Sanjay Kumar will remain attached to the headquarters office of the Excise Commissioner, Prayagraj. The Deputy Excise Commissioner of Meerut has been designated as the investigating officer to conduct a disciplinary and departmental inquiry into this matter.
