Going Solo Theatre to bring epic solo play "Scaramouche Jones" in India for audiences of Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai in mid 2027

Jaipur, Nov 1 (UNI) The Going Solo- India's only International Solo Theatre Festival-, will bring "Scaramouche Jones" the epic solo play for audiences in Delhi, Bengaluru and Mumbai in mid 2027.
The Going Solo- is the production of India’s pioneering arts company, Teamwork Arts. "Scaramouche Jones", presented by Guy Masterson TTI in association with Passion Pit Theatre, has been named the winner and touring production for Going Solo 2027, following the jury’s selection process at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Team Artworks Managing Director Sanjoy K Roy said in a release on Sunday.
"Written and performed by Justin Butcher and directed by Olivier Award winner Guy Masterson, Scaramouche Jones follows a hundred-year-old clown looking back on his life as the 20th century comes to an end. Moving through love, brutality, tragedy, comic misadventures and crumbling empires, the production uses seven white masks to tell the story of a life shaped by a changing world", Roy said.
As part of the Going Solo selection process, the jury attended performances of short - listed solo productions at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe before coming together to deliberate and make the final selection.
Going Solo celebrates the art of solo performance and connects international artists with Indian audiences. For its 2027 edition, the festival jury travelled to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to identify compelling solo theatre productions for presentation in India, he said.
The jury comprised four members with experience spanning theatre, performance and the wider arts. Reena Wadhwa, presenter of Going Solo, is an actor and arts entrepreneur. Nelson Fernandez brings experience in the performing arts. Laura Mackenzie Stuart is a theatre producer and programmer who has worked internationally across theatre and dance and previously served as Deputy Director of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Jo Laidlaw is also a member of the international jury.
Roy said, “Going Solo has always been about discovering what happens when an artist has nothing to hide behind on stage. The Edinburgh Fringe gives us an extraordinary range of work to choose from, but the challenge for the jury is to identify the performances that stay with you long after you leave the theatre. Scaramouche Jones did exactly that. We are delighted to bring it to Indian audiences as the winner of Going Solo 2027.”
The jury also recognised two productions with cash awards. Slay, written and performed by Lois-Amber Toole and directed by Anna Morris, was named First Runner-Up, while James Rowland: Team Viking, performed by James Rowland, was named Second Runner-Up.
“Going Solo celebrates exceptional talent, The ability of a single artist to connect with an audience and transport them into a new world is a skill to be celebrated. Being part of the Fringe jury this year and watching so many extraordinary performances made the selection process even more exciting,” said Reena Wadhwa, Presenter and Jury Member, Going Solo Theatre Festival.
Scaramouche Jones will tour India as part of Going Solo 2027, with further details of the festival and the production’s India performances to be announced later.
