Governor Jishnu Dev Varma calls on MSMEs to explore international markets

Kolhapur, Sept 29 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma on Tuesday called upon entrepreneurs and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to strengthen their presence in international markets and urged those yet to begin exporting to explore global opportunities.
Speaking at the inauguration of the 7th Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet, organised by the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and Maharashtra Small Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC) at Hotel Sayaji here, Varma highlighted the growing contribution of MSMEs to India's economy and exports.
He said the number of MSMEs in the country had reached 9.61 crore, accounting for around 48.58 per cent of India's total exports and providing employment to about 42 crore people.
"After the agriculture sector, MSMEs are the largest employment-generating sector," he said, while urging Indian industries to become globally competitive and take their products to markets across the world.
Varma described Maharashtra as one of India's most dynamic economic powerhouses and said the state's merchandise exports stood at around USD 69.9 billion in the financial year 2025-26.
He said Kolhapur's exports were valued at around USD 722 million during the period, adding that the two-day Reverse Buyer-Seller Meet would provide an important platform for exporters and international buyers to interact and explore business opportunities.
Governor's Secretary Dr Prashant Naranware, FIEO CEO Dr Ajay Sahay, MSSIDC Managing Director Prerna Deshbhratar and FIEO Regional President Khushwant Jain were present on the occasion.
