Govt has implemented many schemes for benefit of the disabled: Minister Bhujbal

Nashik, June 27 (UNI) Maharashtra Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal said today the state government has implemented various schemes for the disabled, to not only provide assistance, but empower them and make them self-reliant and utilise their talents in the development of the society.
Speaking at a free distribution camp for artificial limbs, calipers and distribution to persons with orthopedic disabilities organised by ALIMCO at Radhakrishna Lawns in Yeola city today, he said in today’s camp, free examination and distribution of artificial legs, artificial hands, wheelchairs, tricycles, hearing aids, walkers, canes, etc. are being done. For this, the district administration, a team of doctors, technical assistants, and social organizations have made joint efforts.
Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) is a public sector enterprise dedicated to manufacturing a wide range of assistive devices for persons with disabilities, and functions under the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
He said the 'Divyangjan Sashaktikaran Yojana', initiatives by ALIMCO as well as the Department of Social Justice, District Administration, and many other initiatives are being implemented.
It is necessary for persons with disabilities to get education, employment, health, government services, and respect as common citizens. It is necessary to get opportunities in all fields for their empowerment, he asserted.
Sub-Divisional Officer Babasaheb Gadhave, Tehsildar Aba Mahajan, Municipal Chief Officer Tushar Aher, Group Development Officer Sandeep Vayal, Integrated Child Development Project Officer Vandana Shimpi, District Disabled Empowerment Officer Bharat Chaudhary, Taluka Agriculture Officer Shubham Berad, Taluka Medical Officer Dr. Sharad Katkade, Sanjay Kusawalkar and other officials were present.
Mr. Bhujbal said that this initiative organized by ALIMCO to bring the disabled into the mainstream of society is commendable and a testament to social commitment, and rehabilitating disabled people through this camp is an important step in strengthening their self-confidence.
