Guest house in Mizoram-Tripura border dispute site blown up; no arrests yet

Aizawl, May 28 (UNI) A guest house under construction in the disputed zone along the Mizoram-Tripura border was destroyed in a pre-dawn blast on Wednesday, police said, deepening tensions in the already sensitive inter-state ties.
According to Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), H. Ramthlengliana, unidentified individuals used explosives to damage the structure, which was being built by the Tripura Forest Department.
The guest house stood near Phuldungsei village in Mizoram’s Mamit district, a contested area claimed by both states.
Ramthlengliana said the Tripura government had recently halted the construction following objections raised by the Mizoram government. Despite the blast, the IGP assured that the situation along the inter-state boundary remains peaceful for now.
Mizoram police have informed their Tripura counterparts about the incident and launched an investigation. So far, no suspects have been identified or arrested in connection with the explosion, Ramthlengliana added.
The Mizoram-Tripura border stretches over 66 km and has witnessed a series of tensions recently, particularly after several Mizoram civil society and student organisations voiced strong opposition to the construction of the guest house.
Authorities on both sides are closely monitoring the situation to prevent any further escalation. UNI ZS SSP
