Gurugram Police seize 673 kg of cannabis worth Rs 1.25 crore, arrest two

Gurugram, Oct 27 (UNI) Gurugram Police have seized 673 kg of ganja (cannabis) worth an estimated Rs 1.25 crore, which led to the arrest of two men allegedly transporting the contraband from Odisha to Bhiwadi in Rajasthan, foiling an interstate drug supply operation.
The Crime Branch, Sector 65, intercepted a Rajasthan-registered Tata truck near Rajiv Chowk during the intervening night of October 25 and 26. The ganja was allegedly concealed beneath bags of plastic granules to evade detection.
Police recovered 23 sacks containing 673 kg of ganja, along with 767 bags and 15 packets of plastic granules. The truck was also seized.
The arrested men have been identified as Sabir, 34, a resident of Udaipur village, and Sanawar, 19, a resident of Mirzapur village, both in Rajasthan's Khairthal district.
A case was registered on October 26 at Sadar police station under Section 20(b)(ii)(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which deals with offences involving commercial quantities of cannabis.
According to preliminary police interrogation, Sabir owned and drove the truck, while Sanawar worked as its cleaner for a monthly salary of Rs 20,000. The two allegedly disclosed that they were transporting ganja to Bhiwadi for supply and would receive Rs 2 lakh from other associates for the consignment.
Police said preliminary questioning also indicated that the accused had allegedly transported and supplied ganja concealed among plastic granules and other goods on two previous occasions.
Both men were produced before a court, which remanded them to 10 days of police custody. Investigators are questioning them to trace the source of the contraband, identify the intended recipients and establish the involvement of other persons in the alleged trafficking network.
Further investigation is underway.
