Gurugram traffic police issue 10,187 challans for wrong-side driving in 16 days, tighten curbs on auto-rickshaws

Gurugram, Oct 17 (UNI) Gurugram Traffic Police issued 10,187 challans for wrong-side driving during the first 16 days of October, exceeding the 6,975 challans issued throughout September by 3,212, a police spokesperson said on Saturday.
The spokesperson said enforcement against wrong-side driving had been intensified across the city, with regular surveillance and action against motorists violating traffic regulations under the Motor Vehicles Act.
"Wrong-side driving poses a serious threat to road safety and increases the risk of head-on collisions. Strict action will continue against violators," the spokesperson said.
In a parallel drive, traffic police held meetings at 20 locations across Gurugram on Saturday, briefing approximately 350 auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers on traffic regulations and road safety requirements.
The spokesperson said drivers were instructed not to operate on highways, expressways or restricted roads and to use designated service lanes. They were also directed to remain in the left lane on other roads and avoid unauthorised roadside parking.
Drivers were further instructed to wear prescribed uniforms, carry valid vehicle documents and clear pending traffic challans.
The spokesperson said enforcement and awareness drives would continue to curb violations, prevent accidents and improve traffic movement across the city. UNI KK CDS
