Handloom weavers seek Kakinada Mayor’s post

Kakinada, Oct 13 (UNI) Handloom weavers' community leaders on Tuesday appealed to the coalition government to allot the Kakinada Mayor's post to their community, following the reservation of the position for a Backward Classes (BC) woman.
Addressing a press conference here, community leaders Pappu Durga Ramesh, Ponnaganti Satyanarayana and Akkina Vijayalakshmi thanked the government for reserving the mayoral post for a BC woman but urged it to consider their community for the position.
They claimed that the handloom weavers' community had a significant population across 20 constituencies in the state and cited its past representation as municipal chairpersons in Kakinada, Peddapuram and Pithapuram.
Appealing to the coalition government to recognise their community's contribution and political representation, the leaders sought the allotment of the Kakinada mayoral post to a woman from the handloom weavers' community.
Community leaders Palivela Lakshmi, Badiganti Sekhar, Mamidisetti Nataraj and Pandiri Chandrasekhar were among those present at the press conference.
