Haryana allows payment of property tax under old system until December-end

Panchkula, Nov 3 (UNI) The Haryana government has allowed property owners and occupiers in municipal areas to pay property tax under the old taxation system until the end of December 2026, before making the revised system mandatory, according to two gazette notifications issued by the Urban Local Bodies Department.
The notifications, dated November 2, amend the property tax provisions notified on July 30, 2026, under the Haryana Municipal Act, 1973, and the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994.
Under the amended provisions, the revised property tax system and rates will take effect on August 1, 2026. However, property owners and occupiers have been given a five-month period from that date to pay tax, in accordance with the previous notification dated October 11, 2013.
After the five-month period, payments will be governed exclusively by the revised taxation provisions.
"The property owners/occupiers of the property shall have the option to pay the property tax as per the old notification dated the 11th October, 2013 till five months counted with effect from 1st August, 2026," the notifications stated.
The government has also clarified that property owners who have already paid property tax will not be affected by the amendments up to the financial year 2026-27.
The revised provisions will not affect outstanding property tax dues and interest relating to financial year 2025-26 and earlier years. Such arrears and interest will remain unchanged.
The notifications further stipulate that property tax assessments for all properties from financial year 2026-27 will be carried out under the revised framework.
The amendments, issued by Ashok Kumar Meena, Commissioner and Secretary, Urban Local Bodies Department, have come into force with immediate effect.
The government has made corresponding changes to the taxation provisions governing municipal corporations and other municipalities to provide a uniform transition to the revised system.
