Haryana STF intercepts 25,000 cartridges allegedly bound for Uttar Pradesh

Neeraj Bali
Chandigarh, Nov 3 (UNI) Haryana's Special Task Force (STF) has reportedly intercepted a consignment of nearly 25,000 live cartridges allegedly being transported from a gun house in Sirsa to Uttar Pradesh, raising questions about how such a large quantity of ammunition was procured and who was supposed to receive it.
The cartridges were recovered from a Tata Harrier SUV intercepted near the Rohad toll plaza on the Bahadurgarh-Rohtak highway in Jhajjar district, according to preliminary information.
Several people travelling in the vehicle, including a woman, were reportedly detained during the operation.
The raid was conducted by an STF team from Rohtak led by DSP Shamsher Dahiya and Inspector Yogendra Dahiya.
The ammunition reportedly comprised .32-bore and .315-bore cartridges.
The suspected link to a gun house in Sirsa has emerged as a key aspect of the investigation. Preliminary information suggests that the cartridges had been purchased there and were being taken to Uttar Pradesh for delivery.
However, investigators have yet to officially establish whether the ammunition was purchased through a licensed dealer, whether the transaction was supported by valid documents or whether the consignment was intended for an unauthorised recipient.
The recovery of such a large quantity of ammunition has also brought the intended destination of the consignment into focus.
Investigators will need to establish who financed the purchase, who arranged its transportation and whether the people travelling in the SUV were acting independently or on behalf of others.
The possibility of a wider ammunition supply network cannot be ruled out, although no such network has been officially confirmed.
Another important aspect is whether the quantity of cartridges being transported was consistent with the permissions and documentation required under applicable arms regulations.
The exact number of people arrested or detained and their identities were not immediately available.
Official confirmation was also awaited on the total number of cartridges seized, the gun house allegedly involved and the intended recipient in Uttar Pradesh.
The reported seizure has put the spotlight on the movement of ammunition across state borders, with the source of the consignment and its intended use emerging as the two central questions.
Further details are awaited from the Haryana STF.
