Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan attends 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 27(UNI) Haryana Assembly Speaker Harvinder Kalyan participated in the two-day 12th BRICS Parliamentary Forum held at the Central Hall of Parliament House in New Delhi, where delegates discussed ways to strengthen parliamentary cooperation and promote people-centric development.
The forum, chaired by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on October 26 and concluded on October 27. Presiding officers from 21 countries, including BRICS member and partner countries, along with presiding officers of legislative bodies from Indian states, participated in the event.
Kalyan said the forum provided an opportunity to gain insights into parliamentary functioning and discuss issues of legislative importance. The theme of the forum was “Strengthening Parliaments for People-Centric Development.”
Deliberations across various sessions focused on four key areas: resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. Kalyan said these issues had assumed particular significance amid prevailing global challenges and that public representatives had an important role in achieving people-centric development.
He said the consensus reached at the forum reflected a shared commitment among participating countries to cooperation and a common approach to global challenges. Discussions also covered sustainable development, stronger partnerships and amplifying the voice of the Global South.
Kalyan noted that Prime Minister Modi interacted with delegates and presiding officers of state legislatures during the inaugural session.
A cultural evening was organised on October 26 to showcase India’s cultural heritage. On October 27, Vice-President C P Radhakrishnan hosted a luncheon for participants.
Kalyan expressed confidence that the forum would further strengthen parliamentary cooperation and partnerships among participating countries, while helping build a more inclusive, peaceful and sustainable world through mutual trust and a shared commitment to people-centric development.
