Haryana Congress issues show-cause notices to two women leaders after scuffle at Faridabad protest

Chandigarh, Oct 16 (UNI) The Haryana Congress has issued show-cause notices to two women leaders, including a former assembly election candidate, over an alleged physical altercation during a party protest in Faridabad on October 8, seeking written explanations within seven days and warning of disciplinary action.
The notices were issued to Parag Sharma, who contested the 2024 Haryana Assembly election from Ballabhgarh on a Congress ticket, and former district Mahila Congress president Gajna Lamba following allegations that they exchanged slaps and blows during a demonstration organised as part of the party's "Black Day" protest.
The confrontation reportedly began over their positions in the protest procession and escalated into a physical altercation involving abusive language.
Haryana Mahila Congress president Pearl Chaudhary was present. Congress co-in-charge Jitendra Baghel and district president Baljit Kaushik reportedly intervened to separate the two leaders.
The demonstration was organised to protest against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
In the notices, Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee disciplinary committee chairman Dharampal Singh Malik described the alleged conduct as a serious breach of organisational discipline.
The committee said the incident involved "indecent behaviour" during a peaceful demonstration and had brought an internal party dispute into the public domain after the matter reached the police and attracted media attention.
It said such disputes should have been resolved through appropriate organisational channels rather than allowing them to escalate publicly.
Both leaders have been asked to explain within seven days why disciplinary action should not be initiated against them under the party's constitution and rules.
The notices warn that failure to respond within the stipulated period, or submission of an unsatisfactory explanation, could result in ex parte action based on the available records.
Sharma, an advocate by profession, contested the Ballabhgarh Assembly seat in 2024 but finished fourth with 8,674 votes. BJP candidate Mool Chand Sharma won the constituency with 61,806 votes.
Lamba served as district Mahila Congress president from 2019 to 2023 and has held several organisational positions.
The disciplinary action comes eight days after the confrontation, which drew attention to internal differences among local Congress leaders.
The responses of Sharma and Lamba to the notices were not immediately available.
