Man killed in Sohna encounter named in 70 criminal cases across 3 States: Haryana Police

Nuh, Oct 16 (UNI) Shahid alias Advani, who died following a police encounter in Gurugram's Sohna on Thursday, was named in 70 criminal cases across Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, including murder, rape, eight attempted murders and nine robberies, a Nuh Police spokesperson said today.
The spokesperson said a review of police records had revealed an extensive criminal history involving serious offences, including kidnapping, robbery, theft, house-breaking, extortion and attacks on public servants.
Shahid, a resident of Kharkhari village under Sadar Tauru police station in Nuh district, sustained injuries during a police encounter at Silani village in the Sohna police station area on the morning of October 15. He subsequently died.
According to the police records examined so far, Shahid was named in one murder case, one rape case, one kidnapping case, eight attempted murder cases, nine robbery cases and one attempted robbery case.
The records also included 14 theft cases and 14 house-breaking cases, taking the number of cases in these specified categories to 49.
The remaining entries included cases under the Haryana Gauvansh Sanrakshan and Gausamvardhan Act, the Gangster Act and the Arms Act, besides alleged extortion, assault on a government employee, escape from custody, causing hurt and offences under the Prison Act.
"Police records examined so far have revealed 70 criminal cases linked to Shahid alias Advani across three states. The current legal status of each case is being verified," the spokesperson said.
Police said the available records also contained references to Shahid's status as a proclaimed offender, but the relevant entries were being cross-checked with individual case files and court records.
The spokesperson said Nuh Police had initiated a detailed verification exercise in coordination with the relevant records of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh to establish the precise status of the cases.
The exercise includes examining court proceedings, identifying cases still under investigation or trial, and verifying details of other accused named in the respective cases.
Police said the compilation was based on criminal cases recorded against Shahid and should not be construed as confirmation of convictions in all the cases.
"The objective is to prepare an accurate and consolidated record of his criminal history, including the status of pending proceedings and details of co-accused," the spokesperson said.
Further verification of the records across the three states is underway, police added. UNI KK SS
