Haryana government appeals for donation of historical records under ‘Abhilekh Daan Abhiyan’

Panchkula, Oct 29 (UNI) The Haryana government has launched a public appeal seeking the donation of privately held historical documents, manuscripts and other records of administrative, political, economic, social, religious and cultural significance as part of its Abhilekh Daan Abhiyan, aimed at preserving the state's documentary heritage for future generations.
The Department of Archives, Haryana, has urged individuals and families possessing valuable historical records to contribute them to the Haryana State Archives, where they can be systematically preserved and protected against deterioration or permanent loss.
"If you are in possession of any such records, kindly consider donating them to the Haryana State Archives so that they may be preserved with due care," the department said in its appeal.
The initiative seeks to bring historically important documents held in private custody into the state's archival collection, ensuring that valuable material relating to Haryana's administrative, political and cultural past is not lost over time.
Importantly, the department has also offered assistance to individuals who wish to retain ownership and physical custody of their historical records.
Those unwilling to donate their documents have been requested to inform the State Archives so that officials can provide guidance and necessary assistance for their proper preservation.
The department said the names of individuals donating historical records would be duly acknowledged along with the donated material as a mark of respect for their contribution.
The campaign also seeks public cooperation in identifying archival material that may have remained outside official repositories for decades.
For assistance, citizens can contact the Deputy Director, Department of Archives, at Sinchai Bhawan, Regional archival offices in Hisar and Rohtak have also been designated as contact points.
The department has made additional information available through its official website, haryanaarchives.gov.in, and has encouraged citizens to participate in safeguarding historical records for posterity.
