Haryana: Gurugram police crack down on reckless driving, issue over 9,000 challans in Sept

Gurugram, Oct 4 (UNI) Gurugram Traffic Police issued more than 9,000 challans and imposed fines totalling approximately Rs 1.51 crore during a month-long enforcement drive in September targeting overspeeding and drunk driving on the city's major arteries, police said on Sunday.
The crackdown, conducted from September 1 to September 30, focused on the Mumbai Expressway, Golf Course Road and other key routes where high speeds have contributed to accidents. During the overspeeding drive alone, police issued 7,570 challans and collected around Rs 1,51,40,000 in penalties under the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
In parallel, special teams deployed at morning checkpoints and identified locations across the city caught 1,497 motorists driving under the influence of alcohol. Police issued challans against all offenders, impounded 28 vehicles and suspended their driving licences for three months, during which they are barred from operating any vehicle.
"The primary objective is to make the city's roads safer and effectively control road accidents and other unlawful activities," police said in a statement, adding that such enforcement drives are conducted regularly to prevent untoward incidents and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations.
Authorities appealed to citizens to avoid speeding, follow traffic rules, and not put their own lives or those of others at risk. Gurugram Traffic Police said they will continue similar special enforcement and challan drives across the city to promote road safety and enforce traffic discipline.
