Haryana: INDIA Bloc protests in Panchkula over voting rights, alleged mistreatment of Rahul Gandhi

Panchkula, Oct 8 (UNI) The opposition Congress and other INDIA bloc workers staged a protest in Panchkula today over alleged threats to voting rights and the mistreatment of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other opposition leaders during a demonstration in Delhi.
The protest, organised under the 'Save the Vote–Save the Country' campaign, was led by Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt and party state president Rao Narender Singh.
Addressing the protesters, Dutt accused the BJP-led central government of attempting to suppress opposition voices instead of addressing concerns over electoral transparency and democratic accountability.
"The vote of the citizen is the greatest strength of democracy, and any attempt to interfere with or undermine this right is a serious concern for the country's democratic system," he said.
Dutt said INDIA bloc constituents would jointly take the campaign to villages, wards and polling booths across Haryana to raise awareness about voting rights and constitutional safeguards.
Rao Narender Singh condemned the alleged mistreatment of Congress leaders during the Delhi protest, saying such actions were contrary to democratic principles.
"The right to vote is not merely an electoral right, but the soul of democracy. If there is any threat to the rights of voters, Congress and the INDIA Alliance will not remain silent," he said.
He said the opposition alliance would continue its campaign through peaceful and democratic means.
Panchkula MLA Chander Mohan, former MLA Pradeep Chaudhary, district Congress president Sanjay Chauhan, senior leader Sudha Bhardwaj and state media in-charge Sanjeev Bhardwaj attended the demonstration.
Protesters raised slogans against the Centre and demanded protection of voting rights, democratic institutions and the Constitution.
The allegations concerning the treatment of opposition leaders and threats to voting rights were made by Congress leaders during the protest.
