Haryana Police to launch statewide drive against vehicles without high-security registration plates

Panchkula, Oct 15 (UNI) Haryana Police will launch a statewide enforcement drive against vehicles without mandatory High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP), targeting unauthorised, tampered and concealed number plates to strengthen vehicle identification and curb crime, Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said on Thursday.
Police teams will inspect vehicles for compliance with prescribed registration plate standards and issue challans for violations under the Motor Vehicles Act and applicable rules.
The drive will target vehicles displaying unauthorised plates, altered registration numbers, illegally affixed stickers, bent plates or numbers deliberately obscured to prevent identification.
Singhal urged vehicle owners to install prescribed HSRPs, saying the initiative was aimed not merely at enforcing traffic regulations but also at ensuring accurate vehicle identification and preventing criminal activities.
Additional Director General of Police (Traffic) Amitabh Dhillon said HSRPs incorporate security features that help verify vehicle registration details and reduce the risk of tampering and misuse.
He said standardised security plates also assist police in identifying stolen vehicles and investigating crimes involving motor vehicles.
Police will simultaneously conduct awareness activities to encourage compliance before and during the enforcement campaign.
The HSRP requirements are governed by Rule 50 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, the Motor Vehicles (High Security Registration Plates) Order, 2018, and applicable Haryana government instructions.
Motorists have been advised to ensure that their vehicles carry compliant registration plates with clearly visible numbers to avoid penalties.
