Haryana positions itself as Sweden’s gateway to Indian market at Stockholm innovation summit

Stockholm, Oct 15 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday aggressively pitched the northern Indian state as a premier investment destination for Swedish capital and cutting-edge technology, unveiling a sweeping vision to deepen industrial ties at the India-Sweden Innovation Day 2026 programme in Stockholm.
Addressing the gathering as the chief guest, he said the event marked a decisive step toward the “India Sweden 2035 Competitive Future” roadmap, expressing gratitude that Haryana had been chosen as the state partner for this year’s edition.
“In May 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi elevated our relations with Sweden to a strategic partnership,” Saini said, adding, “Today’s programme is an opportunity to advance our shared resolve for innovation and a competitive future.” The chief minister highlighted soaring commercial momentum between the two nations, noting that bilateral trade has surged from $2.86 billion in 2016 to $7.75 billion in 2025, underscoring the expanding economic weight of the relationship.
To anchor his pitch, Saini showcased a robust Swedish footprint already planted across Haryana. He cited furniture giant IKEA’s integrated project in Gurugram, valued at Rs 3,500 crore, as powerful proof of Nordic corporate confidence in the state’s business environment. In the defence sector, he highlighted Swedish firm Saab’s subsidiary, which is setting up a Carl Gustaf manufacturing facility at MET City in Jhajjar district, signalling deeper defence-industrial collaboration. He also pointed to Swiss-Swedish engineering heavyweight ABB, which has operated a manufacturing unit in Faridabad since 1951 and now serves as a major production hub for modern electric motors.
In education, Saini noted that Kunskapsskolan, the renowned Swedish school chain, opened its first Indian campus in Gurugram back in 2013, reflecting long-standing institutional trust.“These projects mirror our shared efforts under Make in India and Made with Sweden,” he told delegates.
Saini then rolled out a red carpet for Swedish investors, formally inviting them to the Happening Haryana Global Investor Summit 2027 and extending a “sadar nimantran” to the International Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra. Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa, Haryana Cabinet Minister Vipul Goyal and Indian Ambassador to Sweden Anurag Bhushan attended the event.
