Haryana: Rahul's ‘Mohabbat Ki Dukaan’ is ‘shop of lies’, says CM Saini, questions Cong over 1984 anti-Sikh riots

Panchkula, Oct 31 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, on Saturday, launched a sharp attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi ahead of the opposition's November 1 rally in Delhi, describing his much-publicised "Mohabbat Ki Dukaan" (shop of love) slogan as a "shop of lies" and questioning whether the Congress would acknowledge the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, corruption scandals and communal violence during its years in power.
Saini was speaking to reporters here this morning after attending a function organised to commemorate the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, during which he participated in the 'Run for Unity' programme to mark National Unity Day.
The CM accused the Congress of spreading falsehoods to regain political ground, asserting that Gandhi's slogan of love and harmony was inconsistent with what he described as the party's political record.
"This is not a shop of love. This is Rahul Gandhi's shop of lies. He is trying to find political ground through this shop of lies, but his predecessors have already made that ground barren," Saini said.
Referring to the Congress rally scheduled for November 1 in Delhi, Saini questioned whether Gandhi would address the killing of Sikhs during the communal violence that erupted in 1984 following the assassination of then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
"Rahul Gandhi talks about a shop of love. I want to ask whether the massacre of Sikhs during the 1984 riots will also find a place in his shop of love," he said.
Saini also criticized the Congress over its opposition to the Modi government's decision to abrogate Article 370, which granted special constitutional status to Jammu and Kashmir.
"Will the opposition to the removal of Article 370 also be displayed in the shop of love?" he asked.
The Chief Minister broadened his attack by referring to Left-wing extremism, accusing previous Congress-led governments of failing to curb Naxalite violence.
He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government had made decisive progress in combating extremism, while the problem had expanded under earlier governments.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought Naxalism down to zero. It was growing during their rule. Will they bring that issue back into their shop?" Saini asked.
He also referred to past violence in Assam, alleging that successive Congress governments had failed to resolve conflicts that claimed the lives of police personnel, Central Reserve Police Force personnel and civilians.
Saini questioned whether the Congress would acknowledge its alleged failures in maintaining law and order rather than targeting the BJP-led Centre. The Chief Minister also attacked the Congress over corruption allegations and financial scandals during its previous terms in office."Will the major corruption scandals that took place during their government also be displayed in this shop of love?" he asked.
Turning to the opposition INDIA bloc, Saini targeted Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav, alleging that communal violence and law-and-order problems had created an atmosphere of fear in Uttar Pradesh during his tenure as Chief Minister. He questioned whether the Congress and its allies would discuss the law-and-order record of their previous governments.
The Haryana Chief Minister contrasted these allegations with what he described as the achievements of the Modi government in infrastructure development, poverty alleviation and welfare initiatives for women, farmers and young people.
He said road infrastructure had improved considerably since 2014 and accused the Congress of ignoring the difficulties faced by ordinary citizens during its years in power.
"Narendra Modi has worked for every section of society. He has worked for the poor, women, farmers and youth. He is taking the country forward and developing it," Saini said.
The Chief Minister alleged that the Congress and its INDIA bloc partners were attempting to revive their political fortunes by spreading misleading narratives against the government.
"The Congress has only a shop of lies, and its leaders and INDIA alliance partners are spreading those lies," he said.
.Saini's remarks came after the National Unity Day celebrations in Panchkula, where he paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for his contribution to the integration of princely states and the strengthening of India's unity and territorial integrity.
The Chief Minister also praised Modi for establishing the 182-metre-high Statue of Unity in Gujarat in honour of Patel, describing it as a symbol of national integration and collective strength.
Saini maintained that the Congress was attempting to regain political ground through criticism of the Modi government instead of addressing questions concerning its own record in office.
